Breast Cancer Awareness Month: The Healing Power of Laughter

Support Breast Cancer Awareness and Research

“I have always felt that laughter in the face of reality is probably the finest sound there is and will last until the day when the game is called on account of darkness. In this world, a good time to laugh is any time you can.” – Linda Ellerbee

Our friends at the WHOA Network have been sharing just a few of the ways that breast cancer survivors have used the power of laughter to help heal themselves and help other women who are fighting cancer.

The women they recently featured are incredible. In honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we also wanted to share their stories with you.

Pat Wynn Brown – The Hairdo Monologues: When Monsieur Chemo Styles Her Hair

The Hairdo Monologues - Pat Wynn BrownThe Hairdo Monologues is a live show produced by Pat Wynn Brown that features breast cancer stories from a cast of 12 untrained performers. All of the performers have been affected by breast cancer, including survivors, a hairstylist, a surgeon and a radiologist. The show was such a success that Pat, with the help of fundraising, produced a DVD of the show as a resource for cancer patients, support groups and health care professionals.

A dollar from the sale of each DVD goes to The Hair Theater Wig Fund/Columbus Foundation, which assists financially challenged women and girls in need of wigs due to chemotherapy.

Jill Foer Hirsch – When Good Boobs Turn Bad: A Mammoir

When Good Boobs Turn BadDuring her battle with breast cancer in 2010, Jill Foer Hirsch documented her experience in an online journal filled with honesty and humor. With the outpouring of support from her friends, Jill turned her journal into her first book, When Good Boobs Turn Bad: A Mammoir.

Darryle Pollack of WHOA network had a wonderful interview with Jill that you can watch here on their site.

Darryle Pollack - WHOA NetworkWatch Darryle recall a special “WHOA!” moment during her breast cancer journey here on the WHOA website.

Terry Wheatley, Wine Sisterhood founder, and Darryle had their own WHOA moment earlier this year when they met up for National Girlfriends Day in Los Angeles. At that event, the two discovered they were both breast cancer survivors. You can watch the moment here on the WHOA site.

Support Breast Cancer Research

One in 8 U.S. women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, according to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Donating to causes that support breast cancer research can help change the odds.

Breast Cancer Research Foundation - Support Research

Wine Sisterhood supports breast cancer awareness and research through Tough Enough to Wear Pink, an organization also started by our founder Terry Wheatley. Tough Enough To Wear Pink is the western community’s breast cancer awareness and fundraising charitable campaign.

What began as a grassroots movement has spread to rodeos and other sporting events across the U.S. and Canada. Money raised stays in the local community or goes to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Now in its 9th year, the campaign surpassed the $14.5 million dollar mark which was announced at the 2012 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.

Tough Enough to Wear Pink

Purple Cowboy Wines are the official wine of Tough Enough. With each purchase of Purple Cowboy, a donation is made to support breast cancer awareness and research.

Join us this month and all year round in supporting organizations like the Breast Cancer Research Foundation that fight for a cure.
