5 Sensible New Year Wellness Goals

Whether you are looking for a whole reset, or to make more healthy choices in the new year, Wine Sisterhood has curated a list of 5 Sensible New Year Wellness Goals and thoughts on how to reach attainable health resolutions over the upcoming year.

1. Enrich your diet

Step up your nutrition—do not cut out foods or food groups in the name of losing weight—instead, add enriching foods to your meals. Try out new delicious, healthy recipes, finding inspiration from your favorite blogs and websites. We are a fan of Bon Appétit’s Healthyish for every day and all levels and the Love and Lemons Blog for veggie-forward favorites.

2. Integrate meditation into your day

Incorporating a meditation practice into your daily life has a whole host of benefits. Meditation can help with a reduction in stress levels, depression, anxiety and insomnia.  Meditation or active meditation in the form of yoga or Tai chi is a great way to take time for your well-being. Even 5 minutes a day, with a long-term commitment, can have amazing results. If you are looking for some guidance try out Calm or other stress-busting apps.

3. Dance your way into fitness

Mix up your exercise routine with dance! Dancing is an exciting and social way to work out your body. From Ballroom to Zumba, dancing works out your heart, improves balance and coordination, builds strong muscles, improves mood and energy. Check out this great guide and article from the WSJ, featuring Matthew Johnson Harris, who teaches hip-hop cardio classes at Ailey Extension in New York. These cardio-dance moves are a great way to kickstart your fitness goals.

4. Clean your space, declutter your mind

Your environment, both at work and at home plays a critical role in your physical and mental health, and overall well-being. A disordered or dirty environment does not just have the potential for physical illness, it can also lead to a loss of mental stability. By setting time to clean and care for your space, you may see an increase in self-confidence and productivity. For helpful guides on where to begin, head over to Konmari for tips from the tidying queen, Marie Kondo.

5. Make room for self-care

Self-care can take many forms, many of which we have listed today! “Self-care is anything that you do for yourself that feels nourishing,” says Marni Amsellem, PhD, a licensed psychologist based in Trumbull, Connecticut. Self-care does not have to be a chore, it can take the form of pampering, a hot bath after a long day, a healthy skincare routine, and getting enough sleep. Take electronic breaks, stay present, and practice gratitude for yourself and others.

Bonus: Drink more water!

One of the most critical goals to add to your list! Water is the magic ingredient to health and one that many of us overlook! Water can improve physical and mental performance, aid digestion and weight loss, and your overall well-being. Get yourself a good water bottle that you’ll love to bring with you and also try a fun water tracker app like Plant Nanny. Try low-alcohol beverages when you do indulge, like GAZE® our light, low-alcohol, refreshing Moscato produced from California’s sunny vineyards, master-blended with Kombucha, White Peach, Blueberry Pomegranate or Green Tea for anytime you want to be fully in the moment.
