Sip Into Summer: Memorial Day Weekend Pairings

People enjoying barbecue party at backyard

Memorial Day weekend is so close we can almost smell, swirl and sip it! We’re looking forward to a summer where the only restrictions are wondering if the white wine is chilled enough and if we bought enough hot dog buns (but did we?).

We’re taking advantage of beautiful, warmer weather and inviting friends over for a long overdue backyard barbecue and official summer kickoff. To prepare, we polled our Wine Sisterhood team to find out what they’re most looking forward to making over the holiday weekend.

To help you get to know our team a little better, we’ve included a little introduction for each woman and some tips to make each recipe shine.

Save 25% on all of the wine pairings below and more in our BIG Memorial Day sale! The sale ends at midnight on May 31st, so get your orders in now while supplies last.

Leave a comment and let us know what you can’t wait to cook up this summer!

First, the main attractions…

Slow-Roasted Pork Carnitas

Jenna’s Pick: Slow-Roasted Pork Carnitas

Jenna recommends trying this pork carnitas recipe from Half-Baked Harvest that will wow a crowd. Don’t skip the Coca-Cola step! Try this recipe with Bar Dog Cabernet Sauvignon or Girl & Dragon Cabernet Sauvignon

Jenna Duran is our Director of Marketing and proud owner of Frankie, the official Bar Dog wines spokesdog. When she’s not wrangling Frankie, she’s usually busy behind the scenes making sure your favorite wines find their way onto the shelves of your favorite stores and wine shops.

Red Wine BBQ Chicken Thighs

Jen’s Pick: Red Wine BBQ Chicken Thighs

Chicken thighs are so hot right now and perfect for grilling season! Jen recommends using the same wine you’re sipping from your glass in this recipe for BBQ chicken thighs. An all-around win! Try Purple Cowboy Tenacious Red or Middle Sister Wild One Malbec here.

Jen Stedman is our National Account Marketing Manager who works to manage relationships between our family of wines and many of the major retailers across the country. She’s also helping us make sure our online wine shop is in tip top shape!

Now, onto the sides…

Old Fashioned Potato Salad

Mary Ann’s Pick: Old Fashioned Potato Salad

It’s not a true barbecue without the classics! Mary Ann loves this old fashioned potato salad recipe from the Barefoot Contessa, adding a tip to sub italian parsley if you’re not a dill lover. Try this recipe paired with Purple Cowboy Rosé or Balancing Act Chardonnay

Mary Ann Vangrin, aka. MAV, is our Senior Director of Communications & Social Media, in charge of everything you see here on the blog and across Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. She’s also the copywriting maven behind many of the stories you’ll read on our favorite wine labels and websites!

Grilled Asparagus

Destinee’s Pick: Grilled Asparagus

Destinee shared this grilled asparagus recipe from Foodie Crush, noting that the “Destinee-way” is seasoning the asparagus with olive oil, black pepper, Kosher salt, and a little minced garlic then throwing them on the grill. Yum! Take a sip of Middle Sister Drama Queen Pinot Grigio or Girl & Dragon Pinot Grigio with this recipe.

Destinee Hayden is our Marketing & Social Media Coordinator who you’ll find crafting communications to keep you in the loop with wine news and deals in your inbox and across social media. Ask us a question on social media and it could be Destinee you’re chatting with!

And don’t forget dessert!

Strawberry Lemon Bars

Kate’s Pick: Strawberry Lemon Bars

Kate’s a big fan of this strawberry lemon bar recipe from Rabbit & Wolves and would pair it with another sweet treat, Middle Sister Sweet & Savvy Moscato

Kate Eckert is a Brand Manager on our team who leads many of the campaigns you see from our wines in stores and online. Ever wonder where all those new Middle Sister “Drops of Wisdom” come from? Kate probably played a part!
