Fried Chicken Frenzy for the Fourth
We’ve got some big holidays on the horizon. Like us, we’re sure you’re counting down to the Fourth of July, but did you know, just two days later it’s National Fried Chicken Day?!? We’re planning on melding two into one and celebrating both on the Fourth of July, with a Fried Chicken Frenzy!
We’ve collected a few of our favorite styles of fried chicken, along with delicious wine pairings to keep the party going. So, heat up that cast iron skillet, toss a picnic blanket on the lawn and chill a bottle of wine! Here’s to an exciting holiday week!
Lemon-Brined Fried Chicken
This recipe comes from chef Thomas Keller who serves it every Monday at his restaurant, Ad Hoc, in Yountville, CA. This technique keeps chicken juicy, but incredibly crispy, by soaking it in a lemony brine, coating it, then frying it to perfection. Find the recipe here.
Pair it with Girl & Dragon Pinot Grigio
Buttermilk Fried Chicken
Chris Blanchard is a Master Sommelier and chef in Napa who has took his Grandma Opal’s fried chicken recipe, added a few extra touches to make “some of the best fried chicken you’ve ever tasted.” We’re lucky enough here in Napa to call in our orders and pick up this South Carolina-inspired deliciousness directly from Blanchard’s Fried Chicken. Enjoy it in your own kitchen with the recipe here.
Pair it with Middle Sister Smarty Pants Chardonnay
Nashville-Style Fried Chicken
Once upon a time, the Wine Sisterhood traveled to Nashville, TN, and dined at a classic establishment called Hattie B’s Hot Chicken (really, just watch the video). If you’ve never had the chance to experience it, Nashville Hot Chicken is super crispy fried chicken with a special cayenne-infused coating. If you like it hot, give this recipe a try.
Pair it with Middle Sister Sweet & Sassy Moscato
And don’t forget some of our favorite summertime sides:
Sugar Snap Pea and Carrot Soba Noodles
