Holiday Movie and Wine Pairings

The holidays are here and it’s time to uncork a bottle or two (or three) of wine, plop down in front of the TV and bask in some nostalgia. Here are our recommendations of movies that pair perfectly with Middle Sister wines.

rrfeatureBad Santa – Rebel Red Winemaker’s Blend

In this dark comedy, the crotchety Willie T. Stokes and his partner reunite once a year for a holiday con. Posing as a mall Santa and his elf, they rip off shopping outlets on Christmas Eve.

This year however, when befriending a small boy brings out his kinder side, Willie begins to wonder if there is still some hope for him.

Willie reminds us of Rebel Red. A wine with both dark berry flavors and a smooth finish!

After George Bailey wishes he had never been born, an angel is sent to earth to make George’s wish come true. George starts to realize how many lives he has changed and impacted, and how they would be different if he was never there.

Like this movie, Goodie Two-Shoes is kind and gentle. She’s a wine that features ripe and lush berry flavors, medium body, a vanilla note and slight cocoa powder on the finish.

fcfeatureLove Actually – Forever Cool Merlot

Nine intertwined stories examine the complexities of the one emotion that connects us all: love. Among the characters explored are David, the handsome newly elected British prime minister who falls for a young junior staffer, Sarah a graphic designer whose devotion to her mentally ill brother complicates her love life, and Harry, a married man tempted by his attractive new secretary.

Forever Cool is all about the love! And what’s not to love about a wine that tastes like ripe summer berries, blackberry jam and a touch of vanilla!

ssfeatureHow the Grinch Stole Christmas – Sweet & Sassy Moscato

In this adaptation of the beloved children’s tale by Dr. Seuss, the reclusive green Grinch decides to ruin Christmas for the cheery citizens of Whoville. Reluctantly joined by his hapless dog, Max, the Grinch comes down from his mountaintop home and sneaks into town to swipe everything holiday-related from the Whos. However, the bitter grump finds a hitch in his plans when he encounters the endearing Cindy Lou Who.

Sweet & Sassy is just like Cindy Lou Who! Just enough sweet to make the world a better place and just enough sass to carry it off. She tastes like ripe melons and pears (the sweet), with a sprinkle of citrus zest (the sass).

Holiday Inn – Drama Queen Pinot Grigio

In this Irving Berlin musical, Jim and Lila are members of a performing trio who plan to quit and run a country hotel. After turning the inn into a holidays-only live entertainment venue, Jim winds up booking — and falling for Linda. This 1942 classic is the perfect movie to sip classic Drama Queen; dry, fruity, light-bodied and sophisticated.

wofeatureNightmare Before Christmas – Wild One Malbec

smpfeature Home Alone – Smarty Pants Chardonnay

When bratty 8-year-old Kevin McCallister acts out the night before a family trip to Paris, his mother makes him sleep in the attic. After the McCallisters mistakenly leave for the airport without Kevin, he awakens to an empty house and assumes his wish to have no family has come true. But his excitement sours when he realizes that two con men plan to rob the McCallister residence, and that he alone must protect the family home.

Smarty Pants is clever and smart and maybe a little bratty just like Kevin. She’s  a festive blend of pear and citrus in the beginning, with baked apple on the finish.
