Favorite Game-Day Foods Across the US

Favorite Game-Day Foods Across the US

“We’ve got spirit. Yes we do! We got spirit. How ‘bout you?” Oh, you better believe it, Wine Sister. Football season is here!

Our favorite teams are hitting the field and we’re hitting the kitchen, creating delicious dishes to delight crowds at home and at tailgating events. For this lineup, we’re focusing on all four corners of our football-loving country, plus a Midwestern-inspired recipe.

Below are some of our fan-favorite foods to kick your tailgating and at-home parties into overdrive. When it comes to beverages, of course, we’re biased. Skip the beer and pair a glass of wine with your game-day fare!

This season’s game-day recipes and wine pairings:

Girl & Dragon Pinot Grigio and Crawfish Boil

Region: Southeast

Recipe we love: Alton Brown’s Crawfish Boil

Wine pairing: Girl & Dragon Pinot Grigio (Find this wine near you or shop online)

Why we love it: Don’t forget to bring a roll of paper towels to this feast. It’s going to get messy in the tastiest way possible. When you enjoy with a glass of crisp Pinot Grigio, you’re looking at a big win.

Hot Wings with Middle Sister Sweet & Sassy Moscato

Region: Northeast

Recipe we love: The Kitchn’s Buffalo Wings in the Oven

Wine pairing: Middle Sister Sweet & Sassy Moscato (Find this wine near you or shop online)

Why we love it: A chilled glass of Moscato will refresh your taste buds after these hot and spicy wings have had their way with them. If a dish has heat from ingredients such as chiles dry wines may taste more drying and bitter and less fruity. Also, dry wines increase the chile heat. A touch of residual sugar in a wine like Moscato or Riesling tames the sensation of heat on the palate and won’t interfere with the taste of the wine.

Crockpot Italian Beef with Tall Dark Stranger Malbec

Region: Midwest

Recipe we love: Crock Pot Italian Beef Sandwiches from Iowa Girl Eats

Wine pairing: Tall Dark Stranger Malbec (Find this wine near you or shop online)

Why we love it: Get this recipe rolling first thing in the morning and fans will be flocking to your kitchen by the afternoon. Malbec and red meat is a match-up made in heaven. Can’t go wrong here!

Middle Sister Surfer Chick Sauvignon Blanc and Steamed Clams

Region: Northwest

Recipe we love: Steamed Clams with Garlic and Chives from What’s Gaby Cooking

Wine pairing: Middle Sister Surfer Chick Sauvignon Blanc (Find this wine near you or shop online)

Why we love it: Bring on the garlic! Just make sure everyone else has a clam or two. Use a cup of Sauvignon Blanc in the recipe and reserve the rest for sipping.  Sauvignon Blanc and seafood are natural teammates.

Purple Cowboy Tenacious Red with Pork and Green Chile Stew

Region: Southwest

Recipe we love: Pork & Green Chile Stew from Gourmet, via Epicurious

Wine: Purple Cowboy Tenacious Red (Contact us to find this wine near you or shop online)

Why we love it: Cooler days call for hearty foods. This stew will warm you up and keep you cheering until the final touchdown. Pair this stew with a full-bodied, fruit-forward wine like Purple Cowboy Tenacious Red for a truly winning matchup.
