Sisterfest 2016

SisterFest_BlogPicHey everyone! Rebel Red here.

Chilly autumn days are rolling in and the sun is setting earlier and earlier. For some, the change in seasons has a serious affect on their spunk and energy, leaving room for unnecessary crankiness.

But have no fear, Middle Sister wines are here with a brand new celebration to give the boot to crankypants across the globe. Welcome fall with a SISTERFEST! Not unlike Oktoberfest, this party is bound to create some rousing fun!

Let’s start with German Oktoberfest music! Click Here for a Spotify collection of Oktoberfest Drinking Songs!

And don’t forget decorations! Consider these ideas to help set the scene:

Here’s a great recipe for brats that is made with beer, but we like to pair this hearty meal with Middle Sister Rebel Red, Winemaker’s Blend.

Grilled Beer Brats

4 (12 ounce) cans beer
1 large onion, diced
10 bratwurst
2 teaspoons red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

Preheat an outdoor grill for medium-high heat. When hot, lightly oil grate. Combine the beer and onions in a large pot; bring to a boil. Submerge the bratwurst in the beer; add the red pepper flakes, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat to medium and cook another 10 to 12 minutes. Remove the bratwurst from the beer mixture; reduce heat to low, and continue cooking the onions. Cook the bratwurst on the preheated grill, turning once, 5 to 10 minutes. Serve with the beer mixture as a topping or side.

Paired with an Authentic German Potato Salad:

PotatoSalad

3 cups diced peeled potatoes
4 slices bacon
1 small onion, diced
1/4 cup white vinegar
2 tablespoons water
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley

Place the potatoes into a pot, and fill with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil, and cook for about 10 minutes, or until easily pierced with a fork. Drain, and set aside to cool. Place the bacon in a large deep skillet over medium-high heat. Fry until browned and crisp, turning as needed. Remove from the pan and set aside. Add onion to the bacon grease, and cook over medium heat until browned. Add the vinegar, water, sugar, salt and pepper to the pan. Bring to a boil, then add the potatoes and parsley. Crumble in half of the bacon. Heat through, then transfer to a serving dish. Crumble the remaining bacon over the top, and serve warm.

S&SBottle_SmallestAnd for dessert – German Chocolate Cake!

Here’s where it’s okay to cheat and get a cake mix and some canned icing. We give you permission. Middle Sister Sweet & Sassy Moscato is a great compliment to any dessert!

There you have it! A Sisterfest to brighten up even the gloomiest of autumn days.

Auf Wiedersehen, Rebel Red
