Host a Better Book Club: Recipes, Wine Pairings and More!
If you’ve read any one of our Wine Sister reading list posts, you’ve probably gathered that we’re big fans of books here at the Wine Sisterhood. We’ve been members of more book clubs than we can count – and that’s a good thing, a very good thing!
Being that we’re no stranger to an evening with our girlfriends, discussing our latest read over a glass of wine, we thought we’d pull together some ideas for hosting a low-fuss, highly-entertaining book club meeting. So, next time the question of who’s hosting the next meeting comes up, you’ll be happy to volunteer!
Book Club Recipes and Wine Pairings
We teamed up with author Susan Mallery to craft a winning set of book club recipes and wine pairings in honor of the July 12 release of her new book, Daughters of the Bride.
Split up these recipes and paired wines among your book club members and you’ll be all set for a fun and fabulous get together. Download all of the recipes.
Roasted Acorn Squash Bisque with Middle Sister Drama Queen Pinot Grigio
Veggies are the starring role in this fabulous creamy bisque. Top it with a few of the roasted squash seeds as a tasty bonus. Middle Sister Drama Queen Pinot Grigio was made to be married with dishes like this, along with salads, shellfish and poultry. And don’t forget, Middle Sister Drama Queen makes a cameo in “Daughters of the Bride,” by Susan Mallery!
Honey-Lime Salmon with Middle Sister Goodie Two-Shoes Pinot Noir
Marinate this salmon filet about an hour and a half before the book club starts. Then it’s just 15 minutes in the oven before it’s ready to serve! Who says you can’t pair red wine with fish? Pinot Noir and salmon are actually considered one of the classic food and wine matches. The structure of Middle Sister Goodie Two-Shoes Pinot Noir stands up to salmon’s more meaty texture and its balanced acidity and gentle tannins complement salmon’s richness.
Drunken Red-Nosed Honey Bee Cups with Middle Sister Sweet & Sassy Moscato
What’s a book club without dessert? Buttermilk, honey and bourbon come together in this receipe to create a batch of can’t-just-have-one cupcakes. Pair these bee-u-tiful cupcakes with Middle Sister Sweet & Sassy Moscato to end your menu on a delightfully sweet note!
Bonus activity: Coloring!
After reading, our next favorite activity to enjoy with a glass of wine in hand is coloring. It’s not just for kids anymore! Print out a few of these pages to hand out at your next book club or make them an added creative activity during your meetup.
First up, a full six-page coloring book with a “Daughters of the Bride” theme from Susan Mallery:
And, of course, Middle Sister wines had to get in the game with a bridal-themed Middle Sister Drama Queen coloring page:
