New Year. New You. Create the perfect, relaxing night at home

Tips for a Relaxing Night at Home: New Year. New You. | Wine Sisterhood Blog

Did you know that rest, relaxation and recharging are just as much a part of living a healthy life as exercise? Well they are. And if you’ve been keeping up with your healthy portion-controlled eating, healthy and active girlfriend dates and workouts since we began the New Year, then you’re probably in need of some quality downtime too. Even though you may be busy, it’s very important to give your body and mind a chance to reset every once in a while.

And who doesn’t want to have an amazing and relaxing night for one, all the while staying in the comfort of your own home? That’s right, you don’t have to spend a ton of money to have a spa-like experience. In fact, you can recreate something even better for yourself without ever leaving your house.

Here’s how you can create the perfect night in …

For your fitness and body

Do a few body-soothing stretches. This stretching sequence “calming stretches for the full body” from FitnessBlender will help you to feel loose, as well as elongate your tired and stressed muscles.

Use a foam roller for self-massage. Have you ever used a foam roller? If not, you should. The foam roller is an affordable tool that helps you give your tight muscles a massage. Foam rollers are super easy to use, because all you have to do is lay down on top of one and apply your bodyweight to the area want to work on. This “five moves on the foam roller” sequence from POPSUGAR will help you loosen up your tight muscles and leave you feeling like you’ve just gotten off a massage table.

Once your body feels recharged, it’s time to focus on the mind.

For your mind and well-being

Take a bath to relax and soak in your own thoughts. When was the last time you enjoyed a bath rather than a rushed shower? Now’s the time. Run yourself a hot bath full of bubbles, which is not only fun, but also a great way to continue soothing your body.

Light a scented candle. A calming scent can take you back to great memories and more relaxing times. Choose your favorite scent, light the flame and let the aroma fill the entire room. Breathe in the memories of whatever scent you choose, and bring that candle with you from room to room throughout your relaxing night.

Turn on some music. Music can make or break a mood, so select your favorite relaxing tunes, and turn the volume up just loud enough to enjoy it in the background. You can even select the “spa” station on Pandora to hear some zen-like melodies suited for resort, in the comfort of your own home.

Get lost in a story. Do you ever take the time to read something for pleasure? Now’s your chance to soak up some the words on the page of that book you’ve been waiting to dig into.

Once your body and mind are at peace, it’s time to focus on your palate.

For your palate

Sip on something lovely. Open up your favorite bottle of Wine Sisterhood wine, pour yourself a glass and enjoy it, whether you take that glass into the bath or not is up to you. But savor every little sip and think about how relaxed you are in the moment.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Cut up some cucumbers, throw them in a glass of ice water and continue to refill that cup all night, as you hydrate your body and nourish your system.

Fix yourself a healthy dinner. Gather together some fresh greens, fruit and a healthy protein (like eggs, chicken or fish), and munch on a super salad, perfect for filling you up with nutrients.

Once you’ve recharged your mind, body and palate, take a look in the mirror and give yourself a smile. It feels good to recharge.

You’ll see with a little tender-loving-care of yourself, you’ll feel new in no time. So clear your calendar for an upcoming night and give yourself two of the ultimate gifts — relaxation and “me” time.

This may sound odd however…. I love to cook! So a glass of wine, earbuds in and dance around the kitchen while cooking. That’s my best me time when I want to “check out” for awhile.
