Fall Wine Horoscopes: Earth, Air, Fire, Water

Illustration of wine glasses toasting amid stars

Last week we celebrated the autumnal equinox, one of two days each year where we have an equal amount of darkness and light. It also marked the sun entering Libra season, a time representing balance.

As our days start to grow shorter as we move into the winter season, we’re exploring the idea of balance in all areas of life. Here in California wine country and across the Pacific Coast wine-growing regions, we’re celebrating harvest and a bountiful growing season. Soon, grape vines will drop their leaves and go dormant while they wait out the colder months. As it relates to our everyday lives, harvest may also be a time to review the past season and curate ideas, desires and intentions for the next.

When we translate balance to wine, we think of harmony across the main components of alcohol, acidity, tannin, sweetness, body, flavor and finish. A balanced wine is one where the combination of elements works together and not one stands out.

Since we see most things in life through Rosé-colored glasses, we wanted to extend the idea of balance in astrology to our fall wine choices. As all wine lovers know, a beautiful glass of wine can add a harmonious element to a meal and enhance an evening out with friends. In that vein, today we’re exploring how our most story-book, stellar wines relate to the astrological elements.

Bottle of Girl & Dragon Malbec outdoors

Earth: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn

Pairing: Girl & Dragon Malbec

The earth sign is connected to qualities that one’s feet are firmly planted on the ground: practical, grounded and dependable. People influenced by an earth sign are more likely to prefer a sure thing over a big risk. They are focused on the things that are solid in our lives. While cautious and conservative, earth signs may also be highly sensual in their appreciation of good food and wine.

Girl & Dragon Malbec is created from vines strongly rooted in Mendoza, Argentina and a classic representation of its varietal. Tap into the earth sign qualities of this dependable, reliable wine and let it shine next to rich pairings like grilled steak and hearty fall stews.

Girl & Dragon Pinot Grigio with sushi on patio

Air: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius

Pairing: Girl & Dragon Pinot Grigio

The element of air is associated with intellect and communication. Air signs are more likely to ponder and analyze a situation fully to solve dilemmas. They are also alert, curious and perceptive. People influenced by an air sign can examine all sides of an equation before they create a clever approach. We also love their bright and shiny idealism.

To complement the lighter, brighter qualities of air signs, we think Girl & Dragon Pinot Grigio is drawn to this sign. Though winter is coming, there is still room for fresh and fruity pairings that call for a lighter varietal like Pinot Grigio. Try this wine on a takeout night when sushi or Thai curry is on your order.

Tall Dark Stranger Malbec with fireplace

Fire: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

Pairing: Tall Dark Stranger Malbec

The fire element is associated with enthusiastic, larger-than-life personal qualities. Fire signs may also indicate higher creativity levels, courage and liveliness. Those influenced by a fire sign are self-sufficient, spontaneous and hold a zest for life. The hot embers of this sign also allude to a burning love life.

It is because of these larger-than-life and creative qualities, we think Tall Dark Stranger Malbec would make a fitting pairing when out with a fire sign or anytime you need to add a splash of excitement to the moment. Think of Tall Dark Stranger as the courageous one, always ready to make the first move and somehow they seem to find a spark with almost everyone they meet.

Girl & Dragon Cabernet Sauvignon near water

Water: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

Pairing: Girl & Dragon Cabernet Sauvignon

When thinking of water signs, envision rivers and oceans that are flowing, fluid and fluctuating. Those under this sign may feel more intensely than others, with more sensitive emotions and nurturing tendencies. They may act more on sense and intuition, rather than logic or intellect. Water signs feel deeply and can show true compassion and understanding. They feel most fulfilled when they are helping others. Like pouring another glass?

The enchanting qualities of this sign point to everything we love about Girl & Dragon Cabernet Sauvignon. Dare to pair this bold and powerful wine with creative dishes like roast leg of lamb and skirt steak tacos. Like a water sign, learn how this wine evolves and changes with each pairing.
