Spring is swinging, May is for Moscato and we thought you’d like to get to know the wine of the moment just a little bit better. 

So Ms. Moscato…aren’t you just the sweetest thing! Tell us, where do you come from?

As the Muscat wine variety, I’ve travelled the world. I shine brightest in warm-to-hot climates. In Italy, I’m called Moscato. I may look young, but actually I’m one of the oldest grape varieties. The Roman scholar Pliny the Elder described an uva apina (grape of the bees) as sweet with a strong aroma and there’s seems to be a link between my name and the Latin word musca (fly). Weird, right?

You’ve got great style. What’s your secret?

Although I can be made in a lean, crisp, aromatic bone-dry style, you’ll most often find me on the sweeter side, full-bodied and honeyed with a pronounced dried fruit character, specifically apricots. I also tend to be lower in alcohol, which makes me perfect for picnics and outdoor dining. That and I have a killer wardrobe of handbags and sunglasses.

What are you really all about?

I’m about grapes, pure and simple. Inhale deeply. You’ll find aromas of fresh grapes, mango, apricot, honeysuckle, citrus orange blossom and rose water. Have a sip. You’ll taste a delicate balance between acid (that crisp tart quality you find in fresh fruit) and sugar. I’m light, lively and 100% delicious. And that’s for real.

I understand that you’ve been written about in songs and seen on TV.

LOL that’s true! Lil’ Kim and Drake both gave me shout-outs—hey, Moscato is a great rhyming word! I’m very flattered. And yes, I’ve done a few guest shots on those shows where the ladies really enjoy their wine (girls, you know who you are!)  Thanks for making me more popular than ever!

What pairs well with Moscato?

Louboutins and Lamborghinis? Seriously, I think I go great with all kinds of foods. Fruit, fresh cheeses, desserts…but you might not know I’m also stunning with spicy cuisine such as Asian, Latin, Barbeque. My little touch of sweetness tames the heat. Try it, you’ll see!
