Wine as Part of a “New Year. New You.” Way of Life

Wine as part of a New Year. New You. way of life - Wine Sisterhood

We kicked off 2014 with our “New Year. New You.” motto driving our food and exercise choices, but you know we still have to make room for wine. After all, this is the Wine Sisterhood. Are we right?

With our fellow Wine Sisters in mind, we created the healthy snack and wine pairing chart below. Whether your favorite snack is a handful of salty roasted almonds or savory prosciutto, we have a wine pairing perfect for the occasion.

When incorporating wine into your diet, here are a few things to remember…

This is the USDA calorie content for an ounce of wine:

  • Sparkling: 25 calories
  • White: 24 calories
  • Rose: 21 calories
  • Red: 25 calories

A bottle of wine contains 750 ML or 25.42 ounces of liquid, or approximately five 5-ounce or six 4-ounce servings. At an average of 20 calories per ounce, a full bottle would contain approximately 525 calories.

Another piece of advice that we like to follow is “glass of wine, glass of water.” It’s always a good rule of thumb to drink one glass of water for every glass of wine you have. Drinking water throughout the day, and after having a glass of wine will help keep your body hydrated.

And don’t forget to track your activity and food intake. Like us, you’ve probably heard it a million times, “calories in, calories out.” When you track your activity (maybe using a one of the tech tools we love) and what you’re eating, you give yourself a clear picture of your day. For example, if you’re stepping it out and sticking to a healthy diet, you may have room in your day or week to splurge on a glass of wine or two with dinner.

And, as always, drink responsibly.
