Outdoor Wine Tasting in Napa and Sonoma – Our Favorites!
This summer, we’re taking every opportunity to sit, relax, swirl and sip outside at all of our favorite spots in Napa and Sonoma. Consider this list of wineries with outdoor tasting areas on your next trip to California wine country. They’ve got us hoping for an Indian summer!
B.R. Cohn
In the Valley of the Moon under the Sonoma sun, you might just hear a musical number or two while sipping on a B.R. Cohn Rosé or Sauvignon Blanc. With a history rich in music, going to B.R. Cohn isn’t just visiting another tasting room, it’s like coming home. The winery is on the site of an old Sonoma Wells Fargo stagecoach stop, this warm and welcoming property is tucked away behind beautiful olive trees and overlooks the vineyard. Weekends are made sweeter with fresh oysters from Hog Island and live music on Saturdays and Sundays.
Clos Pegase
Clos Pegase in a few words? Grand, elegant, artistic. Every aspect of this Michael Graves-designed estate is meticulously thoughtful, from the drought-tolerant heritage garden to the working caves to the division of the winery into “work” and “play” sides. The lush, cypress-lined courtyard has the formal structure of a European garden but harbors the inviting and welcoming Calistoga hospitality. Bike into the estate and enjoy a glass of wine anywhere on the grounds, the estate is yours to explore.
Cosentino
Cosentino Winery is the first stop to Napa Wine Country, located on the historic Saint Helena Highway and a stone’s throw from the world famous wine barrel sign which welcomes all to the Napa Valley. The winery’s recently revamped patio is one of our favorite places to relax with a bottle of wine and refuel with a light snack. Stop by for a special “entWINEd” event every third Friday, from May through October, featuring current and special release wines with seasonally-inspired tapas. Yum!
Viansa
Head to the “summit of Sonoma” and stay for the view, vines and wines of Viansa Sonoma. Located at the gateway of Wine Country, just 35 minutes north of the Golden Gate Bridge, Viansa is a must-stop for anyone visiting the Bay Area. Take the opportunity to enjoy their wines with a pairing experience in one of their scenic outlooks or while touring the property. From the winery’s terrace, you can look down upon 97 acres of native plants, wetlands, wildlife and a precious environment that Viansa is dedicated to preserving. Pick up a pair of binoculars and see if you can spot any canvasback ducks, great blue herons and other birds migrating along the Pacific Flyway. Or plan to visit when the winery is hosting a weekend full of live music on the lawn!
Sonoma Coast Vineyards
Head west to Highway 1 and hit the Bodega Bay Tasting Room at Sonoma Coast Vinearyds. You won’t be disappointed. Enjoy their top-quality coastal wines on the patio, featuring exquisite views of the bay. Getting the weekend started? Take it easy at one of the winery’s “Wine Down” Friday pairing events.
